Neville Goddard Lectures: “Sorrow Produces Glorious End”
I saw in today’s paper some ex-nun, was a nun for ten years, and now she’s teaching at, I think, UCLA, some class in religion. Or it’s a branch of UCLA…I think it’s Irvine or some other college, but it’s part of UCLA. She said what an enormous class that she has, but she treats it as literature. Well, if you want to, but that’s not religion. It certainly is not history for there was no place on the face of this earth where a man was buried for four days having been proven dead who rose from the grave. Yet you have been buried for thousands of years and you don’t know you are, and yet the watchers in eternity receive from you, multiplied the by billions of us, a stench beyond the wildest dream of man. If you’ve ever gone to Chicago and gone near the stockyards, you know what a horrible odor that is. Well, multiply that by the whole vast world. Not one small area in Chicago but the whole world, and the stench is beyond the wildest dream of man. That is the stench of humanity. But the love is so great he penetrates the ring of offense to demonstrate his love for that chosen one on whom he will now descend and remain. They will ascend together. He is now a transformed person, and he is Paul, the transformed being, and he is Jesus Christ. Then they go back together…two that are really one.
So when you read it in the future, don’t discount the simplest little thing about it. I tell you that you will experience it…just what I told you tonight…and you will know that Lazarus is not something on the outside. The word simply means “God has helped.” No man can redeem himself, God has helped. Yet there are numberless schools teaching self-realization, self-development. If you don’t do so-and-so then so-and-so will happen, and they give you all these little things for you to do and promise you self-salvation. Well, if you want to believe that, you’ll believe it only through the help of those who teach you. The only help that they get from it is to take from you the money that you’ve paid for having heard it…for they can’t deliver the goods. This comes through grace, grace and still more grace: “Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” So let no one fool you that by doing certain things you are going to be saved. You will be saved not by anything that you did other than to “Set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1Pet.1:13).
Hear the story. Don’t reject it, believe it. And then really set your hope that it will come in the not distant future. That hope that you have set firmly believing in the story without doing anything on the outside will materialize in your world. You will share it with others. Not every one will believe you. And even if others believe that you did have the experience they will discount it as a nice, sweet, wonderful dream. Not having had any similar experience they will call it just a dream or hallucination. It’s so easy to simply shake it off if you don’t know what is being said. That goes from the highest to the lowest, so don’t expect because a man is intelligent that he really understands what you’re talking about when you get off into these depths. I know that from my own personal experience from trying to share it with men who consider themselves very able. They have their Ph.Ds and they’re so brilliant in their own mind’s eye, and they write tomes about each other. All must be Ph.Ds and so anything below that isn’t worth their consideration. They shake off their ignorance by telling you, well, it’s an hallucination. They’ll go home, possibly, and burst their little brains trying to find out something about it, but they couldn’t confess to you that they didn’t know.
